Everything you need to know when buying a vehicle

BINCA® is a trade-only vehicle sales centre and Dutch car auction that deals with the storage and distribution of a wide range of commercial, agricultural and road vehicles. All vehicles are advertised and priced according to the car trade, and are therefore sold as seen on trade terms and conditions, with no warranty or guarantee.

BINCA® is a trading name of Fehr Brothers LTD and an acronym for ‘Buy It Now Car Auction’. Our name derives from the fact our business was born as and still operates as a “Buy It Now” car auction, whilst also offering trade vehicle sales.

Inspired by our family’s Dutch-German history and the ways of the Dutch auction, the Fehr brothers decided to apply this method to their car business. If you’re not familiar with the Dutch auction, here is an excerpt from Wikipedia:

A Dutch auction initially offers an item at a price in excess of the amount the seller expects to receive. The price lowers in steps until a bidder accepts the current price. That bidder wins the auction and pays that price for the item. For example, a business might auction a used company car at a starting bid of €15,000. If nobody accepts the initial bid, the seller successively reduces the price in €1,000 increments. When the price reaches €10,000, a particular bidder—who feels that price is acceptable and that someone else might soon bid—quickly accepts the bid, and pays €10,000 for the car.

Dutch auctions are a competitive alternative to a traditional auction, in which customers make bids of increasing value until nobody is willing to bid higher.

When running our auctions we start the Buy It Now price at a price point, then if no buyer makes a bid the price will be reduced. Each price reduction means each buyer having to decide how long they are willing to wait to get a deal, whilst also risking losing the sale of a vehicle to somebody else. Once a buyer sees the vehicle at a price they feel they’d like to purchase at, they can pay the fixed price (plus fees) that they see on the screen.

This is seen by many as an extremely fair way of trading for both the buyer and the seller. It’s transparent and reasonable, with no pressure from either side.

All vehicles must be viewed by the buyer (or somebody representing the buyer) before we can accept any form of payment.

What do the Red/Amber/Green stickers mean?

We have a clear Red/Amber/Green system within our site premises so you can easily differentiate between every vehicle and it’s respective running order, warranty, and sale terms. These are represented by stickers on the window of every vehicle, which in short are:

  • Red is a non-runner or scrap vehicle.
  • Amber is an unprepared, unwarranted vehicle.
  • Green is a fully prepared, fully warranted vehicle.

A full breakdown of each respective sticker can be found below.

Red Vehicle

Our red sticker vehicles are at least one of the following:

  • Non-Runner
  • MOT Failure
  • Project Car
  • Scrap

We advise that all red sticker vehicles should be recovered and not taken on the road.

Amber Vehicle

Our amber sticker vehicles start and drive and come unprepared, unwarranted and are sold as seen. These vehicles are advertised for up to 40% behind the retail value.

Green Vehicle

These are vehicles only available to buy through our sister company BINCA Retail (located at the same site). These vehicles are advertised for Retail value and come fully prepared for sale with a minimum 3 month BINCA Retail Warranty. We also offer finance through BINCA Finance with options to extend warranty for up to 3 years also available. If you'd like a retail-prepared and/or retail-priced car, please visit their dedicated website www.bincaretail.co.uk.

Inspections

At BINCA® all of our vehicles are unprepared and unwarranted so we support and encourage any kind of inspections. If you're unsure about buying a vehicle on trade terms then we recommend you bring either a mechanic or a friend/family member who has competent knowledge on vehicle mechanics. There is no time restriction with vehicle inspections: simply ask our key handlers to pass you the keys for the chosen vehicle and take your time inspecting the vehicle and all its paperwork. Please be aware we require ID for anyone wishing to inspect a vehicle.

AA and RAC Inspections

As an in-house rule we don’t take partial payments or deposits on vehicles whatsoever. All vehicles have to be seen and paid for in full before any purchase can be completed. In the event that a buyer would like to have a vehicle inspected either by the AA, RAC (or similar) we do make an exception to allowing a vehicle to be ‘held without sale’. There is a charge for this which is £50+VAT for the first 24 hours and £25+VAT for each additional 24 hours thereafter with a maximum duration of 7 days. We call this feature ‘stop the clock’ meaning a vehicle can be ‘held without sale’ for the chosen duration and the price will remain fixed. Regardless of the outcome of the inspection this charge is not deducted from the sale of the vehicle, nor is it refundable. It is a charge for downtime of advertising, not a holding deposit. Stop the clock is not compulsory, only a recommendation by us. We cannot guarantee that a vehicle will be held for anyone not wishing to pay for stop the clock.

Test drives

With all the pressures of an upward bidding auction you'll notice that not only is there no time to test drive a vehicle but it is also against most auction house rules.
At BINCA® we allow test drives providing you are insured to drive the vehicle yourself. Those who are uninsured won’t be able to drive one of our vehicles on the road. We charge £20+VAT for a test drive which is refunded if you buy the chosen vehicle.

Fees

We pride ourselves on having low buyers premiums vs the industry standard for car auctions, currently starting from as little as £69 for each vehicle purchased. There are no exemptions to the fees; all buyers including buyers of several vehicles must pay the fee in full as part of the purchase invoice, in order for the car to be released to you and/or leave our site premises.

Summary

As the buyer of one of our vehicles you are committing yourself to a trade sale meaning you are buying a vehicle on trade terms and have adequate knowledge for purchasing a vehicle for the car trade. You do not need to be a member of BINCA® in order to buy from us but we do have to stress that all vehicles must be bought based on your own opinion. We make every effort to make it stress-free for you to inspect our vehicles so please use this opportunity wisely. We try to keep our adverts factual and unopinionated – words such as ‘good condition’ or ‘nice bodywork’ will not be seen in our advertising. Our staff are advised and trained to neither be for nor against a sale, meaning they won’t encourage nor discourage you to buy from our us. Furthermore they will not oversell, undersell, or get involved in any sales tactics with the regards to a vehicle.

All opinions of a vehicle must be made by the buyer themselves. If you call our call centre and ask for an opinion of a vehicle, you will be asked to visit our site in Milton Keynes and view it yourself. Our call centre staff are unable to give any opinion-based descriptions or insight to a vehicle over the phone, so please do not be disappointed or offended when they don’t describe the condition of it, as they do not have access to such information. We endeavour to upload a multitude of photos for each and every vehicle advert to offer as much transparency possible ahead of a potential visit. As all vehicles are used, we encourage that you visit our site to make any judgement on the condition of the vehicle for yourself before buying or paying a deposit. Strictly no sales can take place without a buyer (or their representative) physically viewing the vehicle.

Upon arrival to our site, simply quote the reg number of the vehicle you’d like to view and one of our key handlers will provide you with the key set for that vehicle.

Small Print and Further Information

As per the industry-standard for car auctions, all vehicles are strictly sold as seen and are sold on trade terms. This applies to every vehicle on our site with a red or amber sticker. The sales invoice will show further information regarding the terms of sale.

Every buyer will be asked to read and sign a Trade Sale Invoice Agreement upon each purchase due to this being a trade sale.

We do not guarantee the mileage on any of our vehicles. An odometer reading will be taken on the day of sale but the buyer will be expected to undertake all of their own mileage/history checks.

Viewing of vehicles is available at any point during our opening hours, all vehicles can also be purchased within these hours of operation.

In an event that there are multiple buyers at one time on a single vehicle, then we shall offer the sale to the highest paying buyer.

We cannot explain or describe vehicles over the phone so please do not call asking for descriptions of vehicles or details of service history/paperwork. All opinions should be made by the buyer themselves upon viewing the vehicle at BINCA®.

We cannot accept deposits or holding fees.

NB Implied Terms as satisfactory quality and/or fitness for purpose do not apply to any transaction made at BINCA®. All vehicles are sold as seen with no trial, guarantee or warranty of any kind.

All vehicles must be viewed in order to purchase.

We do not hold any paperwork for the vehicles – if there is any paperwork it will be inside the vehicle for your viewing and included with the sale.

Returns Policy – PLEASE READ
